ZilkerBark is a dog-focused media and events company producing joyful, high-energy content and some of the largest dog events in Texas — including Texas Wienerfest, The Largest Golden Retriever Meetup, and The Great Pug Meetup.

We’re hiring a Contract Social Media Manager to manage and grow our social presence across brands, with a strong emphasis on short-form video for Instagram and TikTok. This role blends content strategy, execution, and occasional in-person content capture, and is ideal for someone who loves dogs, community, and internet culture.

Position Overview

  • Role type: Independent Contractor

  • Compensation: $2,500–$4,000 per month, based on experience and seasonal workload

  • Time commitment: 20–30 hours per week on average

  • Contract term: Initial 3–6 months, with opportunity to extend or grow into a longer-term role

  • Location: Must be based in Austin, TX

  • Work style: Primarily remote with occasional in-person content capture

  • Reports to: Founder

Weekend and occasional evening work is required, as events and some photo sessions take place on weekends. Workload fluctuates seasonally, with lighter schedules in the summer and heavier workloads during fall and event periods.

Location & In-Person Expectations

This role is remote-first, but candidates must live in the Austin area and be able to attend in-person content capture as needed, including:

  • Documenting dog photo sessions

  • Filming interview-style content at Zilker Park

  • Visiting local shelters to highlight adoptable dogs

  • Attending ZilkerBark events and activations

All editing, posting, planning, engagement, and analytics work is done remotely.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and grow Instagram and TikTok accounts for ZilkerBark and seasonal event brands

  • Execute daily, weekly, and monthly content calendars

  • Edit and produce short-form video content (Reels & TikTok)

  • Adapt and evolve an established social media formula while bringing new ideas to the table

  • Identify and apply social trends, audio, formats, and platform best practices

  • Engage with followers via comments and direct messages

  • Promote, document, and recap events through social content

  • Collaborate with pet influencers and local creators

  • Capture content in Austin as needed (dog parks, photo sessions, behind-the-scenes, events)

  • Ensure all content reflects ZilkerBark’s joyful, playful, dog-first brand voice and visual identity

  • Track analytics and adjust strategy to improve performance

Collaboration & Reporting

  • Reports directly to the Founder

  • Sources content from in-house photographers and a graphic designer

  • Owns day-to-day social execution and publishing across platforms

Required Qualifications

  • Proven experience managing social media for a brand or business

  • Strong experience creating and editing short-form video (portfolio or examples required)

  • Proficiency with CapCut, Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro, or similar tools

  • Strong understanding of branding and visual consistency

  • Deep familiarity with internet culture and social media trends

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively

  • Comfortable capturing content in fast-paced, real-world environments

  • Willingness to occasionally appear on camera (interviews, behind-the-scenes, community content)

Nice to Have

  • Experience growing dog-related, lifestyle, or community-driven social accounts

  • Experience working with influencers or creator partnerships

What Success Looks Like

  • Consistent, high-quality posting

  • Strong engagement and audience growth

  • Effective event promotion and recap content

  • Social feeds that feel fun, authentic, and community-driven

Why You’ll Love This Role

  • Flexible schedule with lighter summers

  • Creative ownership and room to experiment

  • Opportunity to grow with a rapidly expanding brand

  • Involvement in events and community activations

  • And yes — you get to work with dogs!
